OVERVIEW
The tmixʷ syilx Science Learning Certificate is designed to prepare learners for success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) pathways, while grounding their learning in syilx knowledge systems and nsyilxcn language. This program creates pre-requisites and university transfer opportunities that bridge learners into degree programs in Science, Earth Sciences, Computer Science, Sustainable Resource Management, as well as the Bachelor of nsyilxcn Language Fluency (BNLF) degree program.
Graduates of this certificate will be well positioned to pursue careers that are urgently needed within Indigenous and local communities, particularly in areas of natural resource management, water protection, sustainable forestry, fisheries biology, species-at-risk management, corridor development, and the application of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) through land-based and Community-driven research.
By combining academic preparation with Indigenous methodologies and values, this certificate equips learners to succeed in higher education and to bring their expertise back to their Communities in ways that protect, restore, and enhance Indigenous land stewardship.
