OVERVIEW
The Indigenous Language Revitalization Micro-Credential recognizes that Indigenous languages are vital expressions of identity, worldview, and cultural continuity. This program honours the knowledge of Elders, fluent speakers, and Community members who carry the voices of their ancestors and the teachings of their land. This program prepares learners to engage in language revitalization, which can be used in spaces such as Community language programs, creating digital or storytelling projects, collaborating with Elders and Knowledge Keepers, and promoting the use of Indigenous languages in education, governance, and cultural initiatives.
Learners who complete this micro-credential earn credits and can advance their learning toward an Indigenous Language Certificate or Diploma program, building on the foundational skills gained in language learning, teaching, and revitalization.
In a non-vocational sense, this course offers language learners a space to earn certification while helping to weave their language into daily lives. At the same time, it supports those who wish to use their language skills in vocational settings to strengthen and carry forward Indigenous language and culture.
