NVIT anticipates the need for a full-time, term Library Coordinator at our Burnaby campus and invites applications from qualified individuals.
Under the direction of the Librarian, the Library Coordinator is responsible for supporting the library services and programs through direct and accessible service in areas such as circulation, interlibrary loan, and technical support.
The Library Coordinator is also responsible for providing reference services including answering directional and reference questions, referring to the librarian questions of a more complex nature, and ensuring that students have a comfortable atmosphere that is supportive to learning. Additionally, the Library Coordinator will be responsible for managing and coordinating student library assistants on the Burnaby campus, including training, scheduling, and supervision.
The Library Coordinator will assist with daily activities, carry out circulation tasks, handle routine library patron inquiries; assist with the maintenance of the collection as specified; complete assigned project work; open, operate and close the library. In coordination with the Librarian, the Library coordinator will also collaborate with faculty to provide extra programming for students, such as workshops, and fulfil other related duties as required.
- Knowledge of core reference tools in print and online formats, and internet search techniques;
- Familiarity with automated library systems, preferably Sitka Evergreen;
- Extensive computer systems experience with a high level of proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite;
- Ability to maintain effective interpersonal working relationships and exercise tact, discretion and good judgement;
- Excellent organizational skills including demonstrated accuracy and the ability to pay attention to detail;
- Excellent communication and proactive customer service skills both in person and online;
- Ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment;
- Knowledge of Aboriginal cultures and practices
- Relevant Post -Secondary Diploma with a minimum of one-year related experience working in the BC public post-secondary system in related library experience, including: providing reference services; experience with automated catalogues and electronic databases; experience with public service function
