Construction Trades Sampler Certificate

The Construction Trades Sampler is a 14-week
program designed to offer students a hands-on
opportunity to gain a basic understanding of three
common construction trades:
. Carpentry
. Plumbing
. Electrical
All trades covered within the trade sampler will
build skill sets. Students will gain insights to
support safe workplace practices, student skill
development, encouraging design, planning, the
production, and evaluation of various construction
techniques, learn theoretical knowledge and apply
tangible skills to assist their understanding and
appreciation for trades while completing a
construction project in the community. Upon
successful completion of this program, students
will have greater opportunity for acceptance into
trades schools' pre-apprenticeship programs.

The YETS program will be broken into sections,
each comprising of 50 hours.
. Carpentry
. Culinary
. Welding
. Electrical
. Automotive Technician
. Work Skills (Foodsafe, First Aid, WHIMIS)

The program will provide a maximum of 16 seats and
will be offered September to June during one block
at the high school. Work skills training will be
complete during the times the certificate
instruction is available. This may be evenings,
weekends or a full weekday.

A portion of the program will be taught at NVIT,
and a portion of the program will be taught at a
school district location, with the option of
training in NVIT's mobile trailer.
