NVIT Entrance Awards

NVIT hosts a variety of internal awards open only to NVIT students. Some awards require that you demonstrate financial need, while others recognize academic achievements, community involvement or other accomplishments. 

Students interested in viewing our list of bursaries and scholarships in more detail can make an appointment with a Financial and Academic Planner. Application forms for all awards can be downloaded by clicking on their respective links highlighted in yellow.

 BC Ambassador Program Free Tuition Entrance Scholarship 

 One Year Free Tuition [amount will vary based on the program's direct cost]
  • Awarded to a candidate in the BC Ambassador Program who meets all entrance requirements of the program of study they will be applying to.
  • College Readines, Bridging to Trades and Access to Employment Skills are not eligible programs of study.
  • Applications are available from the BC Ambassador Program Director and must be sumitted to the BC Ambassador Program Director.
  • The deadline to apply is April 30th of each year.

 F. Gordon Antoine Memorial Entrance Scholarship - Mature Student  (click here)  

 $5000 [$2500 in October and $2500 in February, dependent upon achieving a minimum 2.0 G.P.A. in the Fall semester]
  • Awarded to an Aboriginal mature student (an individual out of formal education for %+ years) registering in a full course load in a certificate or diploma program (80% minimum load) at NVIT.
  • The student must submit three letters: 1) outlining leadership and community services, 2) outlining career goals and objectives and 3) referral letter from a community member.
  • The student may be eligible to renew the award for one additional year dependant upon achieving a 3.0 GPA in the first year.
    *Previous academic standing may be reviewed. Students must register into certificate or diploma programs from the Merritt Campus only.
  • This scholarship is eligible to be renewed for one additional year, another $5000 (dependant upon achieving a 3.0 GPA in the first year).
  • Please note, withdrawal from NVIT will result in the cancellation of the Scholarship and tuition will not be refunded.
    The deadline to apply is August 15th of each year.

  •  Awarded to an Aboriginal student recently graduated from any secondary school in Merritt, BC registering in a full course load of a certifcate and diploma program (80% minimum) at NVIT. The student must have achieved an 80% grade average in highschool. Official transcripts must be submitted.
  • The student must submit three letters: 1) outlining leadership and community services, 2) outlining career goals and objectives and 3) referral letter from a school counsellor, teacher or support worker.

     School District #36-NVIT Law Enforcement Preparation Bursary  

     $250 [credited to the student account at NVIT]
    • Awarded to a student enrolled in Grade 12 from School District #36, on a graduation track by the end of June, who shows an aptitude and interest in law enforcement preparation.
    • The student must have successfully completed LEPP 140-Canadian Criminal Justice System through the partnership created by the School District #36 and NVIT.
    • The student must submit recommendation letters as outlined in the School District #36-NVIT partnership.
    • The student must apply and be accepted into NVIT's Law Enforcement Preparation program or the Associate of Arts-Criminology Degree program.

    Secondary School Entrance Scholarship - Ashcroft/Clinton/Keremeos/Lillooet/Logan Lake/Lytton/Merritt/Princeton/Kamloops
     
      $1000 [credited to the student account at NVIT ($500 in Fall and $500 in Spring after the add/drop date). If the student is Band funded,
      cheques will be distributed directly to the student upon receipt of tuition payment (after the add/drop date).
    • Awarded to a graduating secondary school student from one of the communities listed above, who received a C+ average within the last academic year.
    • The student must be actively involved in either the community or highschool community, demonstrate leadership abilities and plans on attending NVIT in any program at the post-secondary level (100-level or higher) in a full-time course load (80% minimum) within 15 months of graduation.
    • This award is sponsored by NVIT.
    • The secondary schools will determine the recipients.
