Course Details
This course provides learners with the opportunity to explore and experience a variety of instructional strategies that enrich Indigenous student-centered adult learning spaces. Learners will explore Indigenous learning models and experience techniques that engage and motivate Indigenous adult learners. Learners will learn how to engage and motivate adult learners and apply innovative and creative instructional strategies to enhance self-determination, lifelong learning and critical thinking skills with Indigenous adult learners. Learners will also identify and use instructional strategies and techniques that are relevant and meaningful to their own communities or Indigenous adult learning spaces.

    Assignments 50-70%, Final 30-50%, Final 100%. Grading procedures follow NVIT policy.
    Learning Outcomes:

    Upon successful completion of this course learners should be able to:



    • define and discuss the value of student-centred learning;

    • discuss Indigenous beliefs, motivations and approaches to adult learning;

    • demonstrate and apply a variety of adult learning instructional strategies, including self-directed, active, experiential, collaborative, and narrative learning;

    • conceptualize strategies of learning that support Indigenous epistemologies;

    • design and apply instructional strategies that connect the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual realms of learning; and

    • share and apply instructional learning strategies that enhance concepts of self-determination, lifelong learning and critical thinking skills.
