Job Description:

NVIT anticipates a requirement for two full-time, term IT Assistants.  One will be located at our Merritt Campus and one at our Burnaby Campus.  These positions will commence as soon as possible and will end March 31, 2021 with the possibility of extensions.  NVIT looks forward to seeing applications from qualified candidates.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Manager, Information Technology, the IT Assistants will support the operation of the help desk and serve as the first point of contact to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain computer and telecommunication systems equipment.

This includes operational support in student and instructional labs, the installation and repair of staff and student work stations, printers, telephones, data projectors, security cameras, video-conference equipment and other related equipment. This position provides support for learning applications including Moodle, BlueJeans, Office 365, including Email and Microsoft Teams. The technician will also provide support to Colleague, Informer and other software and applications.

These positions may be required to work day, evening, and weekend shifts.


  • A diploma in a related field or 2 years equivalent work experience. Industry certification, such as Comp TIA, A+, N+ and S+ is required or must be pursuing certification with completion in a two-year period from the hire date.

  • Experience with desktop deployment and remote support tools;

  • Proficiency with desktop applications (i.e. Windows, MacOS), video conferencing, email and internet applications;

  • Requires lifting of up to 50 lbs and moving equipment manually or by rolling cart;

  • minimum two years’ experience in computer repair and four years total electronics experience; see comment

  •  solid working knowledge of hardware, software, audio-visual equipment, cybersecurity, networks and telecommunication systems;

  •  ability to analyze faults in equipment with a minimum amount of technical documentation;

  •  excellent analytical, interpersonal and written communication skills;

  •  demonstrated ability to work and problem-solve independently and to work well within a team;

  •  experience working with a learning management system (i.e. Moodle), Microsoft Teams (Enterprise Voice) and  SIS/CRM (ie. Colleague) is an asset;

  •  strong customer service orientation; and

  •  knowledge of Indigenous culture.
