2008 – NVIT Student Society Message:
The NVIT Student Society is a non-profit organization, and a leadership group comprised of student body representatives from each discipline and year of study. The mandate of the student society is to provide social, recreational, a diversity of activities for the students of NVIT, and a voice to the students of NVIT. The activities are designed, and ensured, to meet the needs of the students as they pursue their educational goals as it is important to maintain a balance between their education and family life outside of the college. Many of the events and activities conducted by the student society are comprised of social events such as: Halloween contests, the annual Christmas party, ski trips and the Cultural Events. This year we want to show Aboriginal pride and bring in culturally relevant events and ceremonies. The NVIT Student Society works hard throughout the year to ensure the activities and events are developed to enhance the student’s lives while here at NVIT. To this end the society representatives are elected by the student body with representatives filling the roles of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer along with various representatives from the student body. The Student Society meets the needs and concerns of the student body by conducting meetings which include representation from the NVIT Elders, Instructors, Residence and from NVIT itself.
This Year we would like to make sure that the concerns of the students are herd. Are there things that you would like to see at NVIT? Are there concerns or complaints of students, staff, or faculty? We can help you work through the complaint process or work with you and NVIT to create solutions at NVIT. We want to make sure that your needs and concerns are being listened to. Each year brings new faces not only to NVIT, but also to the student society which holds elections early in the Fall of each new academic year. Please come say “hi” to us. We want to hear your ideas, thoughts and what you can contribute to the student body. As such, student society would like to take this opportunity to thank you for choosing NVIT and those of us who represent you as your voice. Also we wish to thank all those who assist us each year to make each activity and event a success for the students of NVIT.
Meegwetch, (thank you)
