About the awardThe SCUP/AIA-CAE Excellence in Planning and Excellence in Architecture Awards Program is a joint effort between the Society for College and University Planning and the American Institute of Architects Committee on Architecture for Education. It is a juried competition that recognizes state-of-the-art planning and emphasizes excellence in higher education environments and settings and its resultant physical manifestations. The winning entries emphasize not only the quality of the physical environment, but also the comprehensiveness and inclusiveness of the planning process. On July 24, 2005 the Society for College and University Planning conference was held in Washington D.C. with over 1,400 higher education planning professionals in attendance, Sixty-five submissions vied for a total of 9 awards consisting of 1 “Honor Award” and 8 “Merit Awards. The prestigious “Honor Award” for excellence in architecture was presented to Casey Sheridan, President of Nicola Valley Institute of Technology, and to Peter Busby, Principal, of “Busby, Perkins + Will Architects, Co.” Recipients of the 8 “Merit Awards” included such top institutions as: Pennsylvania State University; Northeastern University; Oxford University; Yale University; and, Harvard University.
