Job Description:

NVIT anticipates a requirement for an Associate Registrar, Recruitment to Learner at our Burnaby campus, and invites applications from qualified individuals. This will be an excluded, ongoing position with an anticipated start date of August 15, 2020.

Job Summary:

This position is directly accountable to the Associate Vice President, Students, SEM & Registrar for managing the daily operations of specific functional areas within the Enrolment Services division. This includes project management and supervision of staff. In accordance with the institute’s established policies and procedures, this position is also responsible for providing consistent quality enrolment services and supports to prospective and current NVIT learners. At the crux of the position is student success via an integrated planning and service model supportive of the entire learner cycle. This position is based at NVIT’s Burnaby campus.

The Associate Registrar, Recruitment to Learner ensures high quality, efficient and consistent learner-centred services in the areas of recruitment, prospects, admissions and registration. Regardless of campus, the position is directly responsible for supervising the Recruitment, Admissions and Registration Officers and connected operations while also having shared oversight of the communications, marketing and events functions of NVIT. Integral to the success of this position is collaboratively working with the Associate Registrar, Learner to Graduation (Merritt Campus). The Associate Registrar, Learner to Graduation, regardless of campus, is responsible for supervising the Academic and Financial Planners and connected operations, with shared oversight of the communications, marketing and events functions of NVIT. Together, both Associate Registrars have accountability for planning and reporting on the Enrolment Services areas, including but not limited to: recruitment, community based assessments, financial and academic planning, retention, graduation, and the overall operations, processes and policies linked to the integrity of applicant and student data and production of the student record.

The Associate Registrar, Recruitment to Learner is a leader, collaborator, facilitator and administrator within the division and works across the institute with colleagues, students, and community partners to achieve the objectives of NVIT.  This person is expected to be hands-on-individual who will oversee day-to-day Enrolment Services operations (Burnaby) while completing many projects and operational duties. The successful candidate will have the ability to provide leadership, foster employee success and engage employees while advancing the strategic priorities of the division. The role incudes representation and full engagement at Enrolment Services, Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM), and the Standard and Program Advisor Committee (SPAC) meetings. The individual must consistently develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

 

 



Requirements/Qualifications:

To support incumbent success in the role, applicants should have the following:



  • Master’s degree preferred. A minimum four-year Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution plus relevant experience may be considered. 

  • Three to five years of relevant experience in a student services office that preferably includes supervisory experience in a unionized environment.



  • Understanding of Canada’s history and the devastating impacts on Indigenous peoples and Indigenous ways of being and knowing.

  • Promotion of holistic wellness and trauma-informed practice.

  • Knowledge of and appreciation for Indigenous languages and cultures, and preferably Indigenous lived experiences.

  • Advanced competencies in: oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, business acumen, and project management.

  • Demonstrated advanced skill set with various software systems, particularly with Microsoft Office, Teams, Colleague, Informer, and SharePoint.

  • Demonstrated excellence in building or maintaining an effective multi-service team which provides excellent customer service.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with recruitment, admissions and registration policies, business procedures, systems, and trends in recruitment and overall enrolment services at a provincial and national level.

  • Ability to use various system tools to extract and report on admission and enrolment data.

  • Comprehensive understanding of the learner cycle and its connection to the breadth of functions carried out by the Enrolment Services division and the related trends provincially and nationally. Applicants should note the integrated scope of the Enrolment Services division includes: Marketing and Communications, Recruitment, Prospect through to Graduation procedures, services and supports (retention), Student Success Centre, Accommodations and Accessibility services, etc.

  • Experienced successful project leadership and management skills from implementation through to completion (inclusive of budget).

  • Demonstrated effective and inclusive learning and training facilitation with diverse learner groups.

  • Proven ability to work independently, take initiative, identify service and system improvements through a systems-based lens, to be logical and maintain confidentiality, and capacity to initiate action on matters relating to the Enrolment Services division.

  • Ability to adapt to a fluid work environment (ex. the response to COVID 19).

  • Demonstrated experience responding effectively to learner and employee concerns.

  • Possess superior presentation skills to communicate clearly with all audiences of the NVIT Community as well as external agencies and the general public.

  • Proven ability to build collaborative working relationships in order to achieve outcomes in the best interest of students and NVIT.

  • Proven ability to model professional, ethical and collaborative behaviours.

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering presentations to large and small groups.


Ability and willingness to extensively travel (CBA, Recruitment, External Engagement, Campus to Campus, Communities of Practice).
