Job Description:

NVIT anticipates a requirement for a full-time, ongoing Instructor within the Renewable Energy Program at our Merritt campus, and invites applications from qualified individuals.

Job Summary:

The instructor is responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective learning environment for students. The successful candidate will primarily teach courses in the Renewable Energies Technology Program at the NVIT Merritt Campus. There may be a requirement, from time to time, to teach courses in other Campus programs within the candidate's field of expertise.  

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

- Combination of excellent leadership and teaching skills with a strong commitment to academic excellence and student success
- Excellent communicator
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to relate effectively to a wide variety of learners
- Strong technical/computer skills and familiarity with educational technologies are required
- Teaching experience with hybrid and/or online delivery preferred
- Related industry work experience, previous college teaching experience and knowledge of curriculum design and student evaluations are assets



- Post-secondary 3 year diploma/degree in Alternative or Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, Engineering or an Industrial Electrician/Millwright with a passion for Renewable Energy

- Bachelor or Master's degree preferred

- Significant practical work experience in the alternative or renewable energies field, particularly with industry grade solar photovoltaic or wind energy systems

- Related knowledge in electrical/mechanical controls, green buildings including energy efficiency and management, as well as sustainability practices

- Experience in developing and delivering post-secondary curriculum

- Ability to develop curriculum within bio-gas or bio-mass field based on work experience

- Significant focus on identifying and resolving safety issues within renewable energies industry

- Post-Secondary teaching experience (with Aboriginal adult learners preferred);

- Excellent teaching and human relations skills - faculty members are expected to contribute positively to the life of the school and community; and

- Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing.
