Job Description:

NVIT anticipates the need for term instructors to teach courses within the Indigenous Human Services Certificate and Diploma Programs and invites applications from qualified candidates. The following courses will be offered in conjunction with Carrier Sekani Family Services in Vanderhoof, BC.

The Indigenous Human Service Diploma prepares learners with a career in non-profit agencies, Indigenous communities and government. Graduates will be able to provide support and assistance to individuals, families and communities coping with economic disadvantage, mental health issues, developmental, gender and diversity issues, as well as challenges such as addictions, family change and involvement with the justice system. Learners who wish to continue their education have the opportunity to ladder into the Social Work Degree Program at NVIT.

Applicants should indicate which courses they are qualified for and interested in teaching.


  • Master’s Degree in related field;

  • Post-secondary teaching experience (with Indigenous adult learners preferred);

  • Knowledge of classroom teaching and learning practices;

  • Excellent teaching and human relations skills - faculty members are expected to contribute positively to the life of the school and community; and

  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing.
