Job Description:

With one-time Skills Development Employment Benefit funding under the Labour Market Development Agreement, received by the Ministry of Advanced Education, NVIT anticipates a requirement for part-time term Writing and Math Lab Coordinators (variable schedules) and invites applications from qualified individuals. These positions will end April 30, 2020.

Position Summary:

The successful candidates will be responsible for tutoring in either Academic Writing or Math (algebra/statistics). The Writing and Math Lab Coordinators are members of the Enrolment Services Division, and report to the Success Centre Manager. The Writing and Math Lab Coordinators engage students in learning and support learner advancement in educational development goals with relevant tutoring and academic tools and support. The Coordinators tutor learners in Writing and/or Math and collaborate with various members of the Enrolment Services team and divisions across the institute.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Creating, reviewing and revising holistic learner success strategies
  • Reporting on the activities of their position
  • Facilitate success of learners who wish to engage in either the Writing or Math Labs
  • Build internal and external relationships that support mentorship opportunities for learners and community members that highlight pathways at NVIT and beyond


• Relevant Bachelor’s degree with a major in English or Math preferred

• Education and/or experience in Universal Design and Special Education preferred

• Experience with Aboriginal adult learning facilitation and support

• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication and presentation skills

• A demonstrated commitment to quality service to students and the public

• Self-motivated, independent problem solver with enthusiastic initiative

• Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing
