Job Description:
NVIT is seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join the Academic Team in the role of the Health Program sisqeʔ (uncle) OR sk̓ʷoz (aunt) - HCAP at the Merritt campus. This will be a full-time, term position that will start as soon as a suitable candidate is found and end June 2026, with a potential for an extension.
Position Summary:
Guided by NVIT’s Strategic Values, the sisqeʔ (uncle) OR sk̓ʷoz (aunt) role will be an integral role for supporting NVIT learners and involve coordinating and implementing a support program for the healthcare programs that are being offered by NVIT. The successful applicants will be responsible for facilitating both in-class and online support services that empower learners to succeed academically and personally in the Health Care Programs and Access to Practical Nursing Program. This position will work closely with the Student Success Centre team as well as the Academic team to assist with supporting the learners within the Health Care programs and will report to the Executive assistant to the Deans. The successful candidate must be willing to engage students in healthcare learning and support learner advancement with their educational goals which will include relevant tutoring and wellness support.
Primary responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain the sisqeʔ (uncle) OR sk̓ʷoz (aunt) Program to provide guidance, mentorship, and resources for HCAP and APN learners;
- Collaborate with Health Care faculty and staff to identify areas where learners may require additional support;
- Create and implement in-class and online support strategies, including tutoring, study groups, and workshops;
- Establish a network of peer mentors to assist learners in their academic journey;
- Assess and monitor student progress, providing timely feedback and guidance;
- Maintain clear records for program activities and learner participation in collaboration with the Academic Department;
- Build and collaborate working relationships with the Student Success Centre, Elders, Faculty, and staff to provide a holistic approach to learner success.
- Promote and support student engagement in campus workshops, learning labs, mentorship opportunities, events, and cultural activities;
- Support students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material across all platforms and modalities.

Requirements/Qualifications:
- Relevant Diploma or equivalent in the Health Care field with experience;
- Knowledge of and appreciation for Indigenous languages and cultures, cultural protocols, holistic well-being with lived experience
- Education and/or experience in Universal Design and Special Education preferred;
- Understanding of Canada’s history and the devastating impacts on Indigenous peoples and Indigenous ways of being and knowing;
- Working from a foundation of holistic wellness, cultural safety and relevancy, and trauma-informed practice;
- Experience with Indigenous adult learning facilitation and support;
- Advanced competencies in health care, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
- Able to work flexible hours on weekdays/evenings and weekends;
- A demonstrated commitment to quality service to learners and the public; and
- Self-motivated, independent problem solver with enthusiastic initiative.
