Job Description:

NVIT anticipates a requirement for a Manager of Community Connections at our Vancouver campus and invites applications from qualified individuals. This excluded, ongoing role will begin in as soon as suitable candidate is found.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Registrar, the Manager of Community Connections is responsible for leading community-based engagement and outreach initiatives that support learner recruitment and institutional access strategies. This role is ideal for a dynamic, relationship-focused leader who excels in building trust, partnerships, and pathways rooted in Indigenous values and educational goals.

The successful candidate will serve as a connector between NVIT and Indigenous communities, educational organizations, and external partners. This role prioritizes outreach, community presence, and long-term relationship building to enhance NVIT’s visibility and impact across BC and Canada.

This role focuses on learner success and institutional sustainability, ensuring consistent, high-quality learner-centred services across the complete learner cycle, including recruitment, applications, and registration processes for on-campus, hybrid, and affiliated Indigenous Adult and Higher Learning Association (IAHLA) learners.

The successful candidate will be a strong leader and collaborator, with a thorough understanding of the public post-secondary system in BC and Canada, and experience with Indigenous knowledge systems and working with Indigenous communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strengthen NVIT’s presence and relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations across the province.
  • Coordinate and lead community-based recruitment and outreach activities aligned with NVIT’s values and strategic enrolment priorities.
  • Work collaboratively with departments and external partners to support pathways into NVIT, including dual credit, transfer, and community-based program initiatives.
  • Coordinate and represent NVIT at engagement events, gatherings, education fairs, and community meetings.
  • Support prospective learners through culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices, honouring local traditions and values.
  • Provide input on access and enrolment strategies to support learner success.
  • Lead special initiatives that improve learner access and NVIT’s connection to Indigenous communities.
  • Ensure data quality, reporting, and analysis to support enrolment management strategies.
  • Promote holistic wellness, cultural safety, and trauma-informed approaches across services.
  • Oversee compliance with policies, procedures, and privacy standards related to enrolment services.


Requirements/Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in education, Indigenous studies, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred.

  • A minimum of three years of experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations, or education systems.

  • Experience in a post-secondary student services environment, including supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized setting.

  • Skilled at responding to learner and employee concerns with diplomacy and professionalism.

  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous histories, knowledge systems, languages, and the impacts of colonization.

  • Experience in community engagement, outreach, recruitment, or education pathways development.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and sustain respectful, reciprocal relationships.

  • Knowledge of Indigenous post-secondary trends, priorities, and barriers to access.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams and locations.

  • Experience with project coordination, event planning, or community-based initiatives.

  • Availability for travel, including evenings and weekends, to support engagement activities.

  • Consent to a criminal record check through the Ministry of Justice Public Safety.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, Colleague (or other SIS), Self-Service, and Informer reporting tools.

  • Strong data management skills, including extracting, analyzing, and reporting on enrolment and admissions data (Microsoft Excel proficiency required).
