The NVIT Social Work Program offers a Bachelor Degree in Social Work in affiliation with Thompson Rivers University. Students must successfully meet all NVIT BSW degree requirements.
Completion of the BSW degree requires 120 credits of study.
Of the 120 total credits, at least 60 credits must be social work, and a minimum of 48 credits must be general education (e.g. arts, humanities, social sciences). The remaining 12 credits may be either social work or general education credits. The general education credits must include an English Composition course (e.g. ENGL 110 at NVIT) or 6 credits of English. Literature AND 6 credits of human life span development courses (e.g. PSYC 213 and 223 at NVIT).
The 60 credits of social work must include Social Work 200A and Social Work 200B and 54 credits of upper level social work (300 or 400 level).
Of the 120 credits, at least 60 credits (50%) must be completed at NVIT.
Students must maintain a letter grade of "C" or better in SOCW 301, SOCW 306, SOCW 320, SOCW 311, SOCW 353, SOCW 404, SOCW 457 and SOCW 486.
Credit for the BSW degree may be granted through Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR). To be eligible for PLAR assessment, students must have been accepted to the BSW program. To be awarded PLAR credit, applicants must demonstrate how their skills, knowledge and competencies match the learning offered in course(s) for which they seek credit.
Admission to the NVIT BSW program is limited. The BSW Department will assess the application based on admission statement, related experience and grade point average and determine whether the applicant will be granted admission to the program. Once a decision has been made, students will be notified and will received instructions on how to register.
Individuals applying to the NVIT BSW program must complete an NVIT BSW Admissions package and an admission statement that is evaluated as part of the admissions process.

Students are required to adhere to the BCASW Code of Ethics during their participation in this program 4. A criminal record check is a pre-practicum requirement.
