STLG-110 - St'át'imcets Language: Pronunciation - Learning the Sounds - 3.00 Credits

Course Details
St'át'imcets language proficiency in adult learners prepares them for learning and hearing St'át'imcets sounds. The student will actively participate in an St'át'imcets language introduction to St'át'imcets sounds. Instruction method develops proper pronunciation skills in the St'át'imcets language, develops recognition and differentiation of separate sounds in speech. This method provides the learner with foundational communication skills as a beginner learner.

    Instructors Qualifications: Relevant Master's Degree or equivalent.

    Procedure:
    Assignments 50-70%, Final 30-50%, TOTAL 100%. Grading procedures follow NVIT policy.
    Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to:
  • use a minimum of 150 St’át’imcets words;

  • communicate in a variety of everyday situations, including the community life and events of the St’at’imc;

  • respond to simple commands and greetings in St’át’imcets using short phrases or appropriate actions;

  • describe and demonstrate an understanding of basic oral traditions and cultural protocols of St’át’imcets;

  • in conversation demonstrate use of grammatical structures and sounds associated with St’át’imcets; and

  • demonstrate an understanding of connections between St’át’imcets and the culture associated with the ways of life of the St'at'imc.
