Course Details
This course is designed as an introduction to the language of anatomy, medicine and health care. In this course students will examine written and oral communication from an integrated approach, drawing on practical and theoretical uses of language in the extended care and medical community. Students will look at health care occupations in BC, as well as study English for communication with co-workers, supervisors and instructors.

    Procedure:
    Portfolio Assignment 50%, Grammar and Report Assignments 25%, Final Exam 20%, Participation 5% Grading procedures follow the NVIT policy.
    Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course students should be able to:
  • demonstrate the use of English skills necessary for applied technical communications such as medical reporting, charts, memos etc.

  • demonstrate acceptable and appropriate communication tools i.e. formal writing, informal language, appropriate language used in reports, memo, charts, etc.
  • Text and Materials: To be supplied by instructors.
