Active Campus Portal Implementation Experience

Red River College rolled out the Active Campus portal to staff and faculty in June/09 and will be rolling out to students in August/09. Come and share in our implementation trials and tribulations starting with the discovery sessions, setting up teams to administer, manage and monitor the implementation, to selecting and working with both academic and administrative pilot groups.  We will discuss how we came to the decision to roll out My Sites and the processes we put into place for staff to request Class Sites and Team Sites.  We will share the College wide training plan we created and how we scheduled and registered participants for the training.  (presentation) (Portal Demo Script) (Teaching Using Sharepoint) 

Admissions Roundtable

Lucia will lead a roundtable discussion on hot topics in the Admissions Office. Some possible areas might be using tracks to generate admissions letters, notifying students of upcoming important dates and events, electronic transfer of high school grades or online applications. The name bone game comes from the fact that the bone sets historically used were the shin bones from the foreleg of a deer or other animal.

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine will demonstrate how they worked with OA Solutions to develop and implement a custom solution for online approval of requisitions and purchase orders that would work for their school.  An email notification with a link to web advisor provides an approver friendly process in just a few simple steps!  Challenges and successes will be discussed.  (sample purchase order)

With increasing competition, changing demographics and an erratic economic climate, COTR, like many other colleges in British Columbia, faces enrolments challenges. Content Management is one of the largest budget items in the Total Cost of Ownership of a web site.  Content Management is the task of gathering the information from the Content Owners, getting approval, creating the pages, adding text and images to the site, editing, and updating it. For a web site in today's world to be a powerful tool, the content must be current, accurate, and informative.  A web site might get redesigned once a year, but the content needs to be managed daily.  (presentation)
