Approved/revised: December 15, 2003

  POLICY

Nicola Valley Institute of Technology is committed to providing a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible workplace and learning environment for its employees and students.

NVIT will maintain an Occupational Health and Safety Program as outlined by the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB). The program will operate in an atmosphere of cooperation and be effective in the prevention of injuries and industrial diseases as required by the WCB of BC’s Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

It is the policy of NVIT to:

-  protect the safety of employees, students and visitors against accidents and occupational hazards

-  comply with all relevant regulations and standards relating to occupational health and safety

-  give priority to safe working conditions and job safety practices in the planning, direction and implementation of NVIT activities

Every NVIT Senior Administrator, Dean, Director, Manager and Supervisor is accountable to maintain the standards that are required to meet this policy.

Members of the Institution who perform supervisory duties will ensure that the pertinent regulations and safe work procedures are followed by all employees or students, that adequate training is provided to the employee or student and that safe work procedures are implemented on campus.

All employees and students are responsible for knowing and observing pertinent regulations in the work area and for following safe work procedures.
